Hello! My name is Phil Jones and I am a Mapping Officer in Plymouth. I specislise in many aspects of mapping and GIS, but I have a real love for open source software. I enjoy taking projects from the "techy" stage in GIS through to the design stage, where I can make something complex easy to interpret.
I also enjoy web design and development, mixing this with my GIS skills to make functional and attractive web maps. I enjoy building things from scratch rather than relying on platforms such as Wordpress as I like to find out how and why things work.
This website, for example, is built from the ground up.
I work within the Planning department and in September 2019 I am undertaking a Masters degree in Planning at Plymouth University. I am looking forward to the challenge if somewhat nervous about going to "back to school" after graduating with a BSc in 2011!
When I'm not mapping and building, I enjoy DIY, cooking, walking my dogs on Dartmoor and spending time with my daughter, Eden and fiance, Abbie.
